Windrush Day 2025

Steve Biko Housing celebrate and recognise Windrush Day which takes place on 22nd June  and celebrated each year.  This day honours the incredibly rich and varied contributions of the Windrush generation and their descendants to British society, many of whom include our tenants and people from our community.

Windrush Day commemorates the arrival of the MV Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks in 1948, bringing passengers from the Caribbean to the UK. This historic event marked the beginning of significant migration from the Caribbean, which greatly enriched British culture and society. Windrush Day acknowledges the challenges faced by the Windrush generation and celebrates their invaluable contributions in various fields, including the arts, healthcare, and public service, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of their legacy.
